The Floating Island (Cave Story)

Alex turns to normal and enters the house, followed by the rest of the White Platoon. An ancient woman is in the barely-furnished house.

Merloco and Yoko enter, but Julius stays outside to keep watch.

Woman: Oh, you returned my puppy to me! I'm so grateful!
The puppy leaps off of Alex's head and over to the woman. It then starts licking her face.
Alex: So... you're Jenka?
Woman: That's right.

Merloco: Do you have any idea why this place seems so chaotic?

Jenka: The place is chaotic, deary.
Alex: Makes some sort of sense.
Jenka: Now then, why are you here?
Alex: We came here chasing this big rabbit thing called Igor, and we found him while looking for Balrog and Misery...
Jenka: So, my daughter's up to her old tricks again, eh?
Exclamation points appear over the heads of my characters (except Curly, Quote, and Jenka).

Merloco: Are you saying she is the one causing all this trouble!?

Jenka: No. Not willingly.
Alex: What's that supposed to mean?
Jenka is silent for a few seconds.
Jenka: You know, I have four other puppies that ran away. Will you be a good pet turtle and find them?
Alex: I... am not... a turtle...

Merloco: *Grabs Alex's arm.* Come on Alex.

Merloco and Yoko walk outside.

The rest of the White Platoon follows, Alex somehow keeping his cool.

Julius: I heard the whole thing. We are not some kind of pet retrieval group.

Yoko: Oh, come on Julius. Her daughter left her alone and her puppies ran away. She would have been left alone if we didn't return one of her puppies.

Julius: ...

Yoko: Please Julius? Won't you help us find the other puppies?

Julius: . . .

Alex: We're being bribed to retreive the puppies. If we give them back, she'll probably give us information on how to get through the sand pits, or where to find Misery, or something. Not that I'm too eager about it either, because that means four more puppies are going to jump on my head.

Merloco: Good point! We will use you to bring out the puppies. All who agree?

Joshua & Yoko: Aye.

All besides Alex who can talk: Aye.
Alex: ... Nay?

Merloco: Now where to start?

Alex notices four paths from where the group is.

Merloco: Hmm... Eenie, meeinie, minie-

Joshua: Does it really matter what path we take? I can already tell that they are all going to lead to a puppy.

Merloco: ... Why do you have to kill the fun of things?

Joshua: We're trying to stop an evil creature from killing us and the others around us. Does that sound like fun?

Merloco: ...

Alex randomly heads down one path, the White Platoon following.

Merloco, Yoko, and Julius follow.

They come to a large pit of sand (no Sandcrocs are in it, thankfully) with a few platforms up above. Several skeletons (most of crocodile heads and human legs) are strewn throughout the pit of sand, and a puppy is at the other end.

Merloco: Hmm, it looks like it's going to take teamwork to... go get the puppy, Alex!

Alex: That's barely teamwork at all! Why don't you go get the puppy?

Merloco: Hmm, who do the puppies like most...

Alex: Who knows? Maybe this one will jump on your head.
Quote, tired of the arguing, takes a few steps forward. The bones come to life and assemble themselves as various skeletons (croc head on legs, croc head on legs that throws bones, simple croc head being carried by a rather large green parrot (which isn't a skeleton parrot)).

Merloco: ... Fine, lets do things YOUR way.

Merloco jumps onto the first platform.

Alex: What's that supposed to mean?
Quote and Curly fire their various weapons at the skeletons while the White Platoon does their best to fight the skeletons.
